The Church
Bethel Baptist Church, Bedwas is a community of God's people who worship and serve the Lord Jesus and want to be able to share Him with others.

The church is an independent Baptist church established in 1901 and we are affiliated to the Evangelical Alliance.

Bethel Baptist Church - insideOur worship is contemporary and based on the Word of God.

Our emphasis is :

  • preaching and teaching of the Word
  • worship
  • evangelism
  • mission
  • prayer
  • communion

Preaching and teaching the word of God

Mike's sermons are always based on scripture, illustrated in relevant terms for the current times and issues.

We have Bible Study on the first Thursday of each month at 7.15pm at The Rock - the current study is on The Gospel of Mark. Each study consists of bible readings and group discussions on the topics raised.

Worship

Worship in Bethel is joyous, giving God the glory. We have a small worship group leading the singing. Members of the congregation worship in whatever way they feel most comfortable with - some may dance, some wave banners, some just stand, or sit, and sing - we don't mind as long as the worship is respectful.

Evangelism

We seek to serve and reach out into the local community through regular evangelistic outreach and involvement in our local schools. Pastor Mike visits, on a regular basis, four local schools, taking assemblies and making additional visits as required. Local schools also visit the Church at Harvest and at Christmas.

Every month we have an open fellowship evening, usually held on the second Wednesday at 7pm, to which all are most welcome. We also hold other fellowship events, such as the Easter and Summer Teas, Summer Barbeque, Christmas tea, and Winter Warmer, etc, again - all are welcome - check the events calendar for more information and to see what / when the next event is.

On the first Tuesday of each month at 7.15pm at The Rock we hold a prayer meeting "Christians for Bedwas", where people get together to pray for our schools, businesses, factories, politicians, medical profession, churches, police force, retail establishments, clubs, and everyone in the community. Organised by Bethel Baptist Church this prayer meeting is open to everyone.

Mission

As a church we are committed to supporting various missions across the world.

We have recently sent a team of seven on mission to India to our long term partners Christ for India and Mercy Mission Welfare Society.   We have regular annual visits from the leaders of these missions.

We believe in the principle of tithing and prayerfully and financially support on an annual basis twenty-one missions, both here in the UK and also overseas.

Prayer

We hold a prayer meeting at the church on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm.

Also, on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.15pm at The Rock we hold a prayer meeting "Christians for Bedwas", where people of together to pray for our schools, businesses, factories, politicians, medical profession, churches, police force, retail establishments, clubs, and everyone in the community. Communion

Image of communion wineCommunion is taken on the first Sunday evening and third Sunday morning of each month.

Everyone who believes in Jesus is welcome to take communion, if you prefer not to take communion just let it pass you by.

The bread is passed around and is eaten when you receive it. The wine (juice) is passed around and held until everyone has been served, then we drink it together.

The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."
1 Corinthians 11:23-25
