The Rock - Bedwas Christian Resource Centre

The Rock was born from the vision of Bethel Baptist Church Bedwas in the early 1990s to serve God in the community in a relevant way. To create friendships through servant hearts. Everyone working at The Rock whether trustee, manageress or helper, is a Christian. We support various national and international charities through the book and gift shop; we also support local Christian charities who work in local schools and with those whose lives are blighted by various addictions.

The Rock is a registered charity and member of the Evangelical Alliance. It is an alcohol free environment.

Bedwas is two miles from Caerphilly, on the A468 from Caerphilly to Newport. There is a public car park adjacent to the centre.

Latest News - Summer 2009

When Summer arrives we long for sunny and warm days to relax by the beach or in the countryside. We take our holidays and switch off for a couple of weeks. We haven’t got a beach at the Rock. No sand or sea but we do have a garden with a lovely water feature. It is delightful to sit and unwind in this garden when time permits.

This summer we will be holding two events in the garden, a Summer Tea and a Barbecue. These events are open to everyone and there will be a programme of quizzes, songs, poems and yes, you’ve guessed it, a Talk from the Pastor.

Please bring your family and friends to these events.

Tickets for both events are £3 and are available from the Rock or the Church.

Opening Times

The Rock Christian resource centre is open from 10am to 4.30pm every day except Sunday and Wednesday, with two days closure at bank holidays, extended at Christmas.

The Coffee Shop

Our menu includes various light snacks, and dishes produced by our team of cooks. There is also a variety of drinks available. Last kitchen orders are taken at 4.15pm.

The Bookshop

In our bookshop we stock many Christian books and Bibles, children's books and other items. There are many Christian crafts from around the world on sale. We purchase goods from Tear Craft, The Leprosy Mission, Bible Lands Society, and Toy Box crafts among others. Also in stock is a wonderful array of cards for all occasions.

The Youth Room

Upstairs is a room designed for the youth and young at heart. Sit in a modern surrounding, enjoy coffee and a cake in the room with a view.

The Prayer Room

This room is available when The Rock is open for those who want a time of quiet reflection and prayer. Through our weekly prayer team we offer prayer for any situation for anyone who requests it.

The Conference Room

This room accommodates approximately 20 people and is ideal for church group retreats or any Christian conference. It can be booked for mornings or afternoons, or the whole day. For further details, please contact the manageress.

The Flat

This is provided for respite for full time Christian workers. It is a self catering flat which can accommodate up to 5.

Please pray for this vision so that we can touch many lives around the world in Christ's name. If you would like to help us please contact the manageress.

News - Spring 2009

We've been informed by the Government and the media that our country is in recession. All around us we see the impact on long established businesses in the retail trade, well known stores suddenly closing and thousands are being made redundant. It's heart breaking when we count the human cost to this recession.

We thank God that over the past year the Rock's turnover has increased over previous years, so we have bucked the trend. God is faithful. We are also proceeding to expand the bookshop and No. 3 is quietly being redeveloped.

It's a major and expensive task but we believe it's the right thing to do. We trust God step by step despite the economic forecasts being bleak. We appreciate the hard work of our loyal band of volunteers who serve in the Rock in so many ways. Thank you everyone. Hopefully this year we will celebrate the opening of No. 3 and the extension of the kitchen facilities.

News - Winter 2008

Shoe Box Appeal 2008

This year we arranged our annual collection of show boxes for the families supported by the Romanian Aid Foundation. The Rock soon filled up in September and October.

We were again well supported by our regular customers and the local people of Bedwas. Bella Hedges and her friends brought two car loads - to our surprise!! Then one day a lady called in and asked could she drop a few in from school as they had lost their contact, "No problem", I said. A few days later she turned up with her head teacher from Coed-y-Brain School, Llanbradach, with 79 boxes. God is good.

We sent a total of 215 boxes (and £200 cash towards transport costs) from the Rock at the beginning of November.

A total of 335 boxes are going to Romania from South Wales at the end of November.

We would like to say a big "Thank You" to everyone who contributed to this project. You will make someone happy this Christmas.

The Lord bless you for your kindness.
